Roughly a year ago, I began a project to modify a MacMini. I wished to transplant its internals into the body of a Power Macintosh G4 Cube. Upon attempting to reroute the Mini’s DVD drive into the Cube’s optical bay, I ran into a severe problem: I discovered that the “Slim Line” optical drives used a proprietary connector type known most commonly as “JAE 50.”

After hours of web-searches and forum-reading, not only did I discover that the cable simply did not exist, but that it was in demand amongst computer modding & “carputer” sites... so I decided to make this cable myself.

I found an electronics manufacturer who would help me create this one-of-a-kind piece. I present to you, the world’s only JAE 50 cable!

The cable features a sturdy rigid-flex cable, perfect for bending around corners and weaving through hard-to-reach places. The ends are reinforced with a layer of PCB to ensure that the connectors are attached solidly.
